The rotor of a FitzMill operates similar to a fan and draws a low volume of air through the chamber. To allow proper operation of the mill, this air has to be vented. This is the reason why a canvas dust retainer is often used to make the connection between chamber and product receiver. The retainers allow the air to escape, but retain the product. The Pharmaceutical industry however, is faced with processing increasingly more toxic and costly products. Fitzpatrick offers a number of solutions for containing these products. Fitzpatrick's Product Containment System (PCS) The product containment system includes a special discharge in which filters are located. An integral Vacuum system is activated to draw off process gas through the filters. A back purge system keeps the filters clean during operation. Since the PCS discharge is located directly above the product receiver, there is no product loss. Several methods of direct connection to product receivers are available. An optional Nitrogen purge/automatic control system is available to operate the FitzMill in an inert environment. In this situation, Nitrogen is added into the feed throat of the mill. The Oxygen level of the gas exiting the PCS is measured and the Nitrogen input is adjusted based on the desired oxygen level. Air Swept Operation A pneumatic conveying feed throat and discharge are available for the FitzMill. Using this configuration, material can be pneumatically drawn through the FitzMill in a contained manner. Barrier Isolators
